About Stephanie

Whether you're here locally in southeast Michigan, or if you're visiting from afar, I look forward to connecting with you. Here at Zen Movement Studio, my intention is to share positivity, mindfulness, self-care, and peace as they stem from my practice of yogic ethics and lifestyle.

Feel free to read on to know about my background and how I've come to love the art of living and sharing.

Stephanie Williams, RYT-500, has always embraced yoga throughout her life in some way, shape or form. Being formally trained in ballet, gymnastics and an active athlete, she grew up in constant playful wonder of the body. While attending the University of Michigan for degrees in both Spanish, and Film and Video Studies, a close friend introduced Stephanie to yoga by insisting she go to class. Fortunately, that one class led to many more as over the years Stephanie has learned from a variety of lines of yoga, including close studies with teachers in both Integral and Ashtanga yoga. After college, she primarily lived in Spain to teach English, develop her artistic creativity, and her love for travel, language, people and culture.

After years of waiting for the right moment, Stephanie enthusiastically solidified her yogic path in September 2012 by becoming a Certified Yoga Instructor upon completion of a 200hr Yoga Teacher Training in Hatha Yoga and Vinyasa Flow with Jennifer Yarro. Her training left her utterly inspired by yoga that she did not think twice before expanding her education in Thai Yoga Massage as a Certified Practitioner through the Triple Gem School of Thai Massage.

In November 2012, she took on the opportunity to both teach at and manage the Frog Lotus Yoga Studio in North Adams, MA. There she spent the year developing her teaching and massage practice, while learning from the studio and its strong community.

Through Jennifer Yarro and the amazing staff at Frog Lotus Yoga, Stephanie has also assisted Yoga Teacher Trainings in North Adams, Costa Rica and Bali.  What a way to unite her traveling heart and passion for yoga!  It was a blessing to apply her teaching skills in a unique and intensive setting, working with groups of 20-50 yoga teachers in training, hosting "Office Hours" to offer one-on-one attention and question answering, and watching many hearts open!

Amidst the time assisting the 200-Hour International Teacher Trainings, Stephanie also completed the Gita Module of the Frog Lotus Yoga 500-Hour Advanced Yoga Teacher Training held in Goa, India in December 2013.

From there she continued on for two months of further studies in Thai massage in Chiang Mai, Thailand. While in Chiang Mai, Stephanie embraced the culture, and studied at three different schools to train Reflexology, Pre & Post-Natal, Infant & Child, Chi Nei Tsang (Abdominal Massage), Head & Shoulders, and Advanced Thai Massage Techniques.

After all her world travels and studies, Stephanie returned to her hometown of Bloomfield Hills to offer her services to her home community.

Since September 2014, local yoga studios, clients, and communities all support and inspire her to continue teaching and develop her art!  In this time, she also fortified her nutritional knowledge through various courses in Nutritional Therapy at The Health Sciences Academy.  As of March 2017, Stephanie completed the 500-Hour Advanced Yoga Teacher Training with Veronica Zador at the Beaumont School of Yoga Therapy through Beaumont Hospital of Royal Oak in March, 2019. Within the same school she is in route to complete the Level III program in February, 2020 which will certify her to serve as a clinical yoga therapist.

Keep your eye out as Stephanie continues towards her goals of creating wholehearted content for yogis, leading focus groups, retreats & specialty programs, as well as strengthening and uniting the yoga community here in Southeast Michigan.

Stephanie aspires to teach clean and precise yoga, with attention to alignment and structural flow. She hopes to guide students to deepen their yoga practice by becoming aware of the subtleties of their bodies, cultivating energy from within, and embracing their spirits.  The consciousness she brings to Thai massage stems from her yogic mindfulness, nurturing touch and compassionate heart.

When not at the studio, Stephanie enjoys being out in nature, gardening, plant-based cooking, running, athletics, time with family, and cuddling with her pup Charlie.
